UNICEF, CFSI tap DepEd for humanitarian project in Siargao

BUTUAN CITY -- The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Community and Family Services International (CFSI) teamed up with the Department of Education (DepEd) Siargao Island Division for the Child Protection Emergency Response Project (CPERP), a humanitarian-sponsored project.

CPERP is a joint undertaking of DepEd Siargao, CFSI, and UNICEF for the construction of temporary learning space (TLS) and the provision of repairs to 35 validated classrooms throughout Siargao.

To officially launch the project, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DepEd Siargao, UNICEF, and CFSI was signed recently by Isy Faingold, education chief of UNICEF Philippines; Steven Muncy, CFSI headquarters executive director; Mamerto Certifico Jr., CFSI Surigao sub-office head officer; and Dr. Nelia S. Lomocso, DepEd Siargao Schools Division Superintendent.

Both the UNICEF and CFSI said that the project forms part of their commitment and support to ensure that the basic right to education of Siargaonon learners will not be compromised even in times of emergency.

Dr. Lomocso thanked the humanitarian organizations for the support that DepEd Siargao has been receiving from them.

“Thank you most sincerely for taking care of the needs of DepEd Siargao. We truly need partners like you whose hearts are overflowing with sympathy, compassion, and generosity. Indeed, not all is as lucky as we are,” she said. (Edgar R. Gorgonio, Jr., DepEd-Siargao/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
