BUTUAN CITY -- The GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc., through Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (EVP/COO) Rikki Escudero Catibog, convened all the signatories on August 18, 2022 at Baybay Elementary School in the Municipality of Burgos for the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed construction of the disaster-resilient school building otherwise known as “Kapuso-type classroom” for the said school.

Involved parties present during the said activities were Burgos Municipal Mayor Angie Arcena, Schools Division Superintendent Nelia S. Lomocso, CSR Area Supervisor for Mindanao Concrete Stone Corporation Ricky Bocaoco, LIXIL Philippines Inc. brand leader Giuliana Anastacio, APEX Mining Corporation Corporate Affairs and Communication AVP Ma. Teresa L. Pacis, CEMEX Philippines Foundation Executive Director Erlinda Lizardo, and deputy commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Eastern Mindanao Command Brigadier General (BGEN) Potenciano C. Camba.

In a message, Catibog assured the learners of Baybay ES that the proposed classroom project will be ready for occupancy in three months’ time.

“Three months from now, babalik kami dito na may dalang regalo bilang bahagi ng aming ‘Give a Gift’ project. Three months from now, may bago na kayong classrooms (Three months from now, we will return here with gifts as part of our 'Give a Gift' project. Three months from now, you will have new classrooms),” she said.

Invited entities, especially the benefactors affirmed their commitment to Kapuso Foundation for the provision of manpower, resources, security, and transportation to afford the school children of Baybay ES a more durable and stable education facility.

The municipal mayor of Burgos, Hon. Arcena, thanked the foundation for the timely assistance and she looked forward to more projects to create in the near future.

Meanwhile, the superintendent of DepEd Siargao also expressed her gratitude to the charitable foundation for choosing DepEd Siargao as its recipient.

“Thank you most sincerely, GMA Kapuso Foundation and donors, for being to the rescue in our classroom needs, especially that we are set to open the full-blown face-to-face classes in November, this year. Your valuable gift will truly make a difference in the lives of our learners, and we are extremely grateful for that,” Dr. Lomocso said.

Distribution of the learners’ kits from Kapuso followed after the ceremonial groundbreaking and agreement signing. (Edgar R. Gorgonio, Jr., DepEd-Siargao/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
