Former barangay treasurer in Manila charged for presumption of malversation falls in Surigao Norte
BUTUAN CITY -- A former barangay treasurer in Sampaloc, Manila who escaped conviction for malversation of public funds was apprehended by the personnel of San Francisco Municipal Station (MPS) in Surigao del Norte on August 15, 2022.
Leah Alejandre Abengoza, 42 years
old, widow, jobless, and a resident of 753 Leo St., Barangay 569, PS 04
Sampaloc, Manila, National Capital Region (NCR), was nabbed at Purok 7,
Barangay Honrado, San Francisco through a warrant of arrest.
San Francisco MPS revealed that
Abengoza engaged in the unlawful conduct of taking or misappropriating, or
using public funds by stealing five cheques from the barangay funds of Barangay
596 in Sampaloc, Manila in 2014.
Regional Trial Court National Capital
Judicial Region Branch 55 - Manila issued the warrant of arrest for the crime
of Malversation of Public Funds or Property, Presumption of Malversation of
Revised Penal Code Article 217 for five counts.
Under criminal case number 15-317229-233, Abengoza was apprehended, with Service of Sentence ordered by the presiding judge as she evaded service of sentence by escaping during the term of her sentence.
“We condemn this unlawful act and
rest assured that this deed shall not go unpunished. Remember, no one can ever
escape the long arm of the law,” said Police Regional Office-13 (PRO-13)
