8 arrested in Surigao Norte in violation of Comelec gun ban

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- Eight persons were caught in possession of firearms during the Comelec Checkpoint conducted at Purok 4, Brgy. Binocaran, Malimono, this province.

The joint forces of Malimono Municipal Police Station, 30th Infantry Battalion Philippine Army, 1305th MC, Regional Mobile Force Battalion-13 and QRF 3 of the 1st Surigao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st SDN PMFC) arrested Bryan Canibel Sala, 40, from Purok 5, Brgy. Binocaran, Malimono; Kieth Acelo Non, 39, from Brgy. Alfonso, Tagaytay, Cavite; Michael Angelo Talosig Andres, 28, from 250 Brgy. 3, Aluminus, Laguna; Falcon Eral Sinaca, 50, from Brgy. San Isidro, Malimono; Lino Sales Obre, 65, from Brgy. Muzon, San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan; Ernesto Adloan BalopeƱos, 36, from Brgy. Poblacion, Brooks Point, Palawan; Julius Dalman Cabonce, 27, from Purok Sta Cruz, Brgy. Duhinob, Dipolog City; and Ricky Zabalero Banlas, 38, from Brgy. Magtangale, Balingoan, Misamis Oriental.

Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (SDN PPO) Provincial Director PCol. Renato C. Mercado revealed that the recovery of firearms and ammunition stemmed from a concerned citizen's call that armed men were standing by in the area.

Authorities were able to confiscate one M4 Caliber 5.56MM Commando Enhanced rifle; one M4 Carbine rifle; one M4 rifle; one Caliber .45 pistol; one STI Caliber .45 pistol loaded with one magazine with ammunition; one Para Ordnance Caliber .45 pistol with two magazines with ammunition; one Smith and Wesson Caliber 9mm pistol loaded with magazine with ammunition; three other magazines for Caliber .45 pistol loaded with ammunition; five plastic magazines for Caliber 5.56MM rifle loaded with ammunition; and one aluminum magazine for Caliber 5.56MM rifle loaded with ammunition.
