PRO-13 condemns CTG burning incident in Surigao Norte town

BUTUAN CITY -- The Police Regional Office-13 (PRO-13) condemned the barbarism of the communist-terrorist group (CTG) in burning a dump truck and a pay-loader with an estimated value of Php5,700,000 in Brgy. San Pedro, Alegria, Surigao del Norte on April 20.

PRO-13 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Romeo Caramat, Jr. that these communist insurgents are working hard to frighten the community members and create wicked activities to make people believe they are still in control particularly in the burning of two vehicles in Alegria. However, the truth is that the communist insurgency is nearing its end.

Citing the report from Alegria Municipal Police Station, the station's personnel, the 2nd Surigao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company, 30th Infantry Battalion, and 29th Infantry Battalion responded to the area after receiving information about the CTG members' atrocities.

Upon reaching the area, the responding team was fired upon by members of CTGs members, prompting the troops to return fire towards the enemy's position.

The firefight lasted for more or less 10 minutes before the enemy withdrew towards the mountainous area of Magja, San Pedro, in Alegria.

During the investigation, witnesses revealed that nine unidentified individuals wearing black uniforms and carrying long firearms AK47 carrying six liters of gasoline approached and ordered the drivers of the vehicles to step down and abandon the said vehicles, while some of the CTG members were hiding nearby.

An extensive investigation is underway to determine whether the deceased Ernesto R. Andojar, 44 years old, resident of P-6A, Barangay Baan, Riverside, Butuan City, was an alleged member of the rebel group after being found during the firefight.

"We condemn these violently initiated acts in the strongest terms, as we vow to hunt down these CTG members committing crimes against humanity that killed innocent civilians," Director Caramat said. (Police Regional Office-Caraga/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
