Surigao City barangay chair arrested for shabu

BUTUAN CITY -- An incumbent barangay chairman was arrested in Surigao City for selling shabu to an undercover agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Caraga on January 18, 2022 at Brgy. Togbongon during the conduct of joint anti-drug operation together with the local Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel.

The arrested high-value suspect was identified as Luther Bugas Elumba, Brgy. Togbongon's incumbent barangay chairperson, who was a subject of monitoring and surveillance prior to his arrest.

The joint elements of PDEA Caraga, Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office - Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (SDN PPO-PDEU), and local PNP operatives were able to confiscate from the suspect more or less PhP45,000 worth of shabu and an unlicensed .9mm caliber pistol with 10 live ammunition and a magazine.

The arrested barangay official will face charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” and the RA 10591 or the "Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act”. (PDEA-Caraga/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
