PRRD joins Surigaonons inaugurate significant infra projects in Siargao Island

BUTUAN CITY -- Surigaonons welcomed another significant infrastructure development projects in Dapa, Siargao Island, province of Surigao del Norte, which include the new Siargao Island Sports and Tourism Complex (SISTC) and Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge (Three-Point Bridge System).

 

No less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go graced the event on Saturday, Nov. 6.

 

Form their arrival at the Surigao City Airport, they then proceeded to Dapa, Siargao Island and arrived at around 4:45 p.m., and were welcomed by Secretary Roger Mercado of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Secretary Martin Andanar of Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), Surigao del Norte Governor Francisco Matugas, and District 1 Representative Francisco Jose Matugas II, among others.

 

President Duterte was delighted as he toured inside the new Siargao Island Sports and Tourism Complex and see for himself all the facilities and equipment which are now readily available for the people of Surigao del Norte who are into sports.

 

In his message, Governor Francisco Matugas highlighted that this landmark infrastructure project in Siargao Island will bring together all people into the art of sports. "Thank you, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for gracing this event. Now, with this sports complex, with eager confidence and gratitude, we will do great things," he said.

 

Surigao del Norte District 1 Rep. Francisco Jose Matugas II, expressed that all Surigaonons will never forget this day when President Rodrigo Roa Duterte personally visited and witnessed the completed projects in Siargao Island. The bridge, in particular, was completed in June 2021 and is considered the longest bridge on the island. 

 

"The funds used for these landmark projects were released under your administration, Mr. President. These are the things that we are thankful for amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. From all of us Surigaonons, thank you so much President Rodrigo Roa Duterte," he said.

 

In his speech, President Duterte acknowledged all the local officials in the different local government units (LGUs) in the province. He then emphasized that Siargao Island as the surfing capital of the country is verdant green. "Do not allow anybody to ruin your environment here," he cited.

 

"We are confident that Siargao will prosper as one of the famous tourist destinations in the country. Take care of what you have right now and preserve it for the next generations," President Duterte added.

 

The officials from different LGUs in the province took a photo opportunity with Pres. Duterte right after the program. This was done in order and all observed the imposed health protocols. Heads of government agencies in Caraga Region also took part in the event. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
