20 payaos installed in SurSur town

PIA-Surigao del Sur

CARRASCAL, Surigao del Sur -- Fishermen in this town can now look forward to having a bountiful catch of fish to sustain their livelihood with the installation of 20 units of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) locally known as 'payao' on Oct. 16 along the coast of Barangay Dahican in Carrascal.

The 'payaos' were installed by the Dahican Fishermen Association (DFA) and Dahican Agri-Fishery Integrated Association (DAGFINTEGRAS).

The said activity was fulfilled with assistance from the local government unit (LGU) of Carrascal through the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) that would include both financial and technical support as well.

The report said the project was funded by the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) of CTP Construction and Mining Corporation (CTPCMC).

The said project primarily aimed to establish productive and sustainable fishing grounds where the marginalized fisherfolks can efficiently conduct their fish capture activities to improve their catch and ultimately develop their income-generating capabilities for their families.
