61 ASF-affected hog farmers avail livelihood assistance from DA

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur – Some 61 backyard farmers affected by the recent African swine fever (ASF) in Barangay Matho, Cortes, Surigao del Sur have availed the livelihood assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Caraga through its Livestock Program on October 7, 2021.

The report said a total of 746 heads of free-range chicken amounting to P373,000.00 were distributed to the affected backyard raisers for their alternative livelihood.

The assistance is under the Livestock-based Livelihood and Enterprise Development of the program of the DA.

In a press statement, Regional Livestock Program Coordinator Jekem Sanchez stated that more interventions for Swine Recovery and Rehabilitation will be given to the affected backyard raisers in the region through the three-year repopulation INSPIRE Program.

The turnover of assistance was attended by Cortes Mayor Josie Bonifacio, Asst. Provincial Cooperative Officer June Anthony Ouano, and Municipal Agriculturist Gil Escalant. (NGPB/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
