DOST AgNor initiates organizational capability development for coffee farmers in AgNor town

BUTUAN CITY -- The Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) of Agusan del Norte successfully conducted the seminar-workshop on Organizational Development for the members of the Durian Farmers Association (DUFA) recently in Brgy. Durian, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte.

The activity was a component of the project, “Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST),” that aims to extend a holistic approach in the implementation of appropriate science and technology interventions for the development of communities.

While DOST is working on providing technical interventions for the establishment of DUFA’s coffee processing facility, the office also prepares the association in terms of strengthening its organization to ensure its full readiness for the livelihood project.

The two-day workshop focused on the crafting of the coffee processing facility’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives, including organizing the team who will run the operation. The association was also able to create its own brand for its coffee products that will be manufactured thru the facility.

Gender Sensitivity Awareness was also integrated into the workshop to guide the members in addressing social and gender-related issues that may occur in the organization.

Pastor Gregorio Sindo, one of DUFA’s active members, expressed his thanks to DOST for extending support and bringing S&T to their community. He further encouraged the members of the association to continue their full cooperation in the implementation of various projects for Brgy. Durian’s economic development.

Ricardo N. Varela, DOST Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Field Operations, thanked the association for accepting DOST along with its initiatives for sustainable livelihood. He committed to continue working closely with the association and provide the necessary S&T interventions for the successful operation of DUFA’s coffee processing facility.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Las Nieves also expressed its full support for the project. (DOST Agusan del Norte/PIA Agusan del Norte)
