Winning LGUs on Duterte’s population agenda cited
BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 23 – The Commission on Population
(POPCOM) Caraga once again recognized the contribution of the Local Government
Units (LGUs) in the implementation of the country’s population policy.
During the culmination of its Regional Program
Assessment and Planning Workshop, POPCOM Caraga proclaimed the winners of the
2017 Search for Best Philippine Population Management Program Implementer
Award. Provincial category winners were: Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Norte,
1st Place; Province of Dinagat Islands, 2nd Place; and Agusan del Sur, 3rd
Place.
The said structures were among those who excelled
again in the implementation of the population program in their respective
locality, after a comprehensive assessment and validation conducted by POPCOM
Caraga.
However, POPCOM Caraga Regional Director Alexander
A. Makinano expressed that the results of the assessment still show that the efforts
of the LGUs have still to be further enhanced to sustain its momentum down at
the grassroots.
The said award sought to recognize the
contributions of the LGUs to achieve the targets of the four strategic
components of the PPMP, namely: Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning
(RPFP), Adolescent Health and Development (AHD), Population and Development
(PopDev) Integration, and the Special Population Group, to ensure no one was
left behind in getting reproductive health information and services.
Under these criteria, the award is an assessment of
the performance of the various offices of the entire LGUs particularly its
population, health and social services offices.
These awards were POPCOM Caraga’s means of
extending appreciation to all local population workers in implementing programs
and projects contributing to the attainment of the population program thrusts
and the Ambisyon Natin 2040, which embodies the Filipinos’ aspiration of
“Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Buhay para sa Lahat.”
“It is very important to recognize the effort and
spirited contributions of the population workers and program partners in the
implementation of the Philippine Population Management Program. Recognizing
them publicly of the efforts they have done is the key to their serving as
great examples and inspiration to others,” Makinano highlighted.
