By Venus L. Garcia

BUTUAN CITY, June 25 (PIA) – A seven-year old girl died after New Peoples Army (NPA) bandit group attacked a community in Barangay Payapag, Bacuag, Surigao del Norte in the evening of June 23, 2016.

The child identified as Cristel Mae Aguilar was sleeping on her bed when hit by a bullet from the said bandit group. The Peace and Development Team (PDT) of the 30th Infantry Battalion (30IB) who was there for the conduct of peace and development activities managed to defend the community from the attack and prompted the communist bandit group to withdraw towards a mountainous area of the incident.

Immediately after the bandit group fled away, the PDT has searched and secured the locality and discovered several empty cartridge shells of AK-47 and M16 A1 assault rifles from the bandit group’s possession.

They also saw the parents of the victim crying for help to deliver their child to the hospital. The PDT urgently extended necessary assistance to transport the victim to the nearest hospital and subsequently reported the matter to the law enforcement.
