Caraga RDRRMC spearheads kick-off activities for 2016 NDCM

BUTUAN CITY, June 24 (PIA) – As the nation will once again celebrate this year’s National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM), the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Caraga is spearheading the kick-off activities on July 1, 2016.

A thanksgiving mass will be celebrated at 6:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Chapel of Philippine National Police (PNP) Caraga in Camp Rafael Rodriguez, this city.

Motorcade in the city thoroughfares and opening program will then follow at the Agusan del Norte Provincial Covered Court, Capitol here. Local officials, government employees, representatives from private sector, non-government organizations, academe and media will be participating in the opening ceremony.

Also, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga will be facilitating the press conference with RDRRMC chairpersons as panelists on the same day.

The celebration is in connection with Presidential Executive Order No. 137 that designates the month of July as National Disaster Consciousness Month in order to heighten public awareness on the importance of disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness.

Sison women association now sells lemongrass hydrosol

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte, June 24 (PIA) – Lemongrass hydrosol and essential oil products from the municipality of Sison are now available and ready for market.

Ima Women Initiated-Community Association (IWICA) of Barangay Ima, Sison is a recipient of a 2014 Bottom up Budgeting (BuB) Project for their lemongrass processing which amounted to P285,000 under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The project fund was used to purchase a pneumatic steam, boiler equipment to produce lemongrass hydrosol and essential oil as the main products of their processing business.

Lemongrass processing business was identified by the community itself because they became living-witness and personally experienced the benefits brought by the lemongrass-processed products such as hydrosol and essential oil.

They also have an existing seven-hectare land of lemongrass plantation that can suffice their present production.

To ensure supply sufficient and sustain business operation, each landowner member commits to plant at least half a hectare each year.

The project aims to uplift the lives of the people in Barangay Ima, especially the members of IWICA. The success of the business operation would give each of them an opportunity to generate additional income and hopefully improve their quality of life. (DTI-Surigao del Norte/PIA-Surigao del Norte)


Gigaquit police, BFP join ‘Pagyanig 2016’

GIGAQUIT, Surigao del Norte, June 24 (PIA) – The personnel of Gigaquit Municipal Police Station (MPS) in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Saint Augustine Institute joined the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill dubbed “Pagyanig 2016” on June 22, 2016.

According to Gigaquit MPS officer-in-charge Police Inspector Sabino Mejos Pagasian the said activity is directed at gearing up the entire community for the likelihood of the occurrence of a damaging earthquake.

“With emphasis on the duck, cover and hold drill which is a necessary undertaking in the event a catastrophic quake or tremor happens in order to minimize if inevitable, serious injuries or loss of lives,” Pagasian said.
