PhilHealth, Butuan LGU establish City Forest Park thru tree growing activity

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 12 (PIA) – The Philippine Health (PhilHealth) Insurance Corporation, together with the city government here and Barangay Bancasi are embarking on growing and establishing the Butuan City Forest Park thru a tree growing activity in Barangay Bancasi at 5:30 a.m., February 28, 2014.

“The said activity is in support of the Vision 2020, which will imbibe in people the awareness and involvement in activities to temper the effects of Climate Change, hence, moving people to do their share in ensuring 'intergenerational responsibility,' which is that responsibility to hold in trust the natural resource and treasures of the earth for the benefit, enjoyment and use, not only of the present generation but of the generations of mankind yet to come,” disclosed Johnny Sychua, regional vice president of PhilHealth Caraga regional office.

Sychua added that it is the intergenerational responsibility of this generation to sustain such resource so as also to sustain the generations to follow.

It was also learned that the activity also coincides with the celebration of PhilHealth’s 20th Anniversary this month of February.

The National Health Insurance Program was established to provide health insurance coverage and ensure affordable, acceptable, available and accessible health care services for all citizens of the Philippines. NNC spearheads 1st quarter Regl Nutrition Cluster Meeting cum Planning Workshop

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 12 (PIA) – The National Nutrition Council Caraga, in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH) and Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) will be holding the first quarter Regional Nutrition Cluster Meeting cum Planning Workshop on February 17, 2014 at Hotel Luciana, this city.

DOH-Caraga regional director and OIC-regional nutrition program coordinator of NNC Minerva Molon recalled how the council along with DOH and OCD had organized the Regional Nutrition Cluster for Nutrition in Emergencies as a sub-cluster of Health and Emergency Management System of DOH.

"There were series of orientation, meetings and workshops conducted in 2014 to formalize its organization to cater for nutrition concerns of the vulnerable group particularly pregnant women, lactating mothers, children, elderly and person with disabilities through the minimum nutrition service packages during emergencies and disasters in the region,” bared Molon.

Molon further disclosed that during the series of activities, the regional nutrition technical working group (RTWG) members and allied sectors from national line agencies had actively participated and shared their ideas.

“A draft 'Terms of Reference' of the roles and functions of member agencies in Nutrition in Emergencies (NIE) was disseminated among the RTWG for review and updating. Thus, there is a need to convene the member agencies to finalize the Terms of Reference for the NIE and draft a Regional Plan on NIE that can be integrated in the Regional Health and Emergency Management System of DOH Caraga,” Molon added.

NNC is an agency of the Philippine government under the DOH responsible for creating a conducive policy environment for national and local nutrition planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and surveillance using state-of the art technology and approaches. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)


DOH Caraga holds 1st CHT summit

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 12 (PIA) – With the aim to acknowledge and recognize the important roles and contributions of the Community Health Team (CHT) members/partners of Caraga region, the Department of Health (DOH) holds the 1st CHT Summit in the region on Thursday in this city.

According to DOH Caraga regional director Dr. Minerva P. Molon, the CHT partners contributed much to the achievement of the goals of Kalusugan Pangkalahatan (KP) through their active participation at the community level.

Dr. Molon also said that their agency acknowledges the role of CHT members regardles of their health status, especially on the reduction of Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Rate in some areas these CHTs served.

“CHT members are instrumental individuals who served the people in their communities, because of their involvement, we have been achieving our targets and we have been improving not only the quality of health of individual families, but the quality of life for our constituents as well,” Dr. Molon added.

Also, during the summit, city councilor Dr. Virgilio G. Nery, Jr. representing city mayor Dr. Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr., extends his appreciation to the CHT members. “You have contributed so much by giving direct assistance to underserved families in our community,” said Dr.  Nery to around 800 CHT members present.

Dr. Grace Lim of DOH Caraga, said that there are 11,615 Community Health Team (CHT) members in the region comprise the target of 2014. The 93% or 11,035 of the trained CHTs were deployed throughout the region, Dr. Lim added.

“These CHTs were able to visit and advocate the appropriated-health seeking behavior of 100 percent of the 145,077 Conditional Cash Transfer Households,” Dr. Lim said.

CHTs are tasked to help especially the poorest families as identified by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the National Household Targeting System, including those covered by the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Butuan SP recognizes DILG Sec intervention during water crisis

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 12 (PIA) - A resolution expressing "warmest appreciation and gratitude of the city government and people of Butuan" to Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas for the help in remedying "the water crisis faced by the constituents of Butuan City" was approved by the Sangguniang Panglunsod of Butuan in its regular session on February 10, 2015.

In conjunction with a similar resolution expressing commendation for privately and publicly associated groups and individuals who volunteered help during the height of the city's water crisis, SP resolution 13-201-2015 primarily authored by Councilor Ferdinand E. Nalcot explained that Secretary Roxas "became aware of the ordeal experienced by the people of Butuan City and decided to help in his own official capacity by arranging the offices of the Bureau of Fire Protection - Buenavista and Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte and the Bureau of Fire Protection of Bayugan Agusan del Sur, to commission its tankers to help distribute water to the constituents of Butuan City in the different Barangays where water is barely or not available at all."

TESDA, Dinagat Islands labor office meet to finalize MOA

SAN JOSE, Dinagat Islands, Feb. 12 (PIA) – The Provincial Labor and Employment Management Office (PLEMO), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Dinagat Islands and Ruben E. Ecleo Sr. Polytechnic College (REESPC) conducted recently a co-management meeting to finalize the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the operation of the Provincial Training Center in the province.

Provincial Administrator Millard Tawakal led the conduct of the said meeting with regards to the co-management scheme of the administration and operation of the Provincial Training Center identifying the REESPC campus in Barangay Ruben E. Ecleo Sr., Cagdianao as the province's official TESDA Provincial Training Center.

The said MOA was being instituted since the thrusts of the current provincial administration were education and employment generation through the ECLEO CARES PROGRAM with the aim to address the problem spawned by poverty.

"Thus, by establishing a Provincial Training Center, it would be easier to implement programs pertaining to skills development and training to provide employment opportunities in order to uplift the social economic and moral well-being of all Dinagatnons," said Tawakal. PSA bares activities for 24th Civil Registration Month celebration in SurSur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Feb. 12 (PIA) – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Surigao del Sur is set to spearhead activities highlighting the 24th Civil Registration Month celebration province-wide this February 2015.

Ruel Dres, PSA interim chief, bared that aside from the exclusive events being carried out at the local government unit (LGU) level, their agency also has separate activities lined up for the month-long event that will be participated in by staff coming from each Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO).

He particularly underscored four important undertakings, such as: hanging of streamers/tarpaulin; 2nd Civil Registration Quiz Show (CRQS); assisting mobile registration; and, school forum on data dissemination.

SurSur guv assures DepEd division new leadership of support

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Feb. 12 (PIA) – Surigao del Sur Governor Johnny Pimentel assured the new leadership of the Department of Education (DepEd) Division Office here of his support.

During the formal turn-over ceremony and welcome party held on February 11 at the Shacene Grand Ballroom, this city, Governor Johnny Pimentel said in his message “Ma’am Marilou, whatever the provincial government has extended support to Ma’am Fe Cabatuan, that is also the support I will give you in your incumbency.”

The governor was referring to Dr. Marilou Dedumo, who replaced Dr. Teofila Cabatuan at the helm of the DepEd here as the new Schools Division Superintendent.  Cabatuan vacated the post on February 6 due to retirement age.

“In whatever problems that you might encounter especially with the mayors or some political officials in the province of Surigao del Sur or for that matter, any problem that I might be of help, please do not hesitate to call me and I will extend my help immediately,” he added.

Earlier, Pimentel pointed out that the occasion was so important to him, citing cancellation of his appointment in Manila just to show his support to the DepEd family.

Tagalog News: Gobyerno nagpapatupad na ng mga hakbang matapos ang ulat ng MERS-CoV impeksyon

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Peb. 12 (PIA) - Inatasan ni Pangulong Aquino si Acting Health Secretary Janette Garin na gawin ang kinakailangang hakbang pagkatapos na isang nurse mula sa Saudi Arabia ay naging positibo sa MERS-CoV at ipinasok sa Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) para gamutin, sabi ng Palasyo.

“Ginagawa ang paghahanap para matuntun ang kasamang pasahero ng pasyente na kasama niya mula Saudi Arabia patungo ng Maynila noong nakaraang linggo,” sabi ni Communication Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. sa isang panayam noong Miyerkoles.

Ayon sa ulat, sinabi ng Department of Health na ang isang 32 taong gulang na nurse na kararating lamang mula sa Saudi Arabia ay pumunta sa RITM para sa isang medical na pagsusuri dahil sa lagnat, pananakit ng katawan at hirap sa paghinga, simtoma ng isang nagkaroon ng impeksyon sa MERS-CoV.

Ang mga pagsusuri na ginawa sa laboratoryo ay nagsasaad ng positibong resulta, at ang pasyente ay kasalukuyang nananatili sa may negatibong pressure na silid sa RITM.

Ang pasyente ay nasa matatag na kondisyon, pero isinailalim sa estriktong pagbabantay ng mga tauhan ng hospital, sabi ng ahensya.

Sinabi rin ng DOH na pinaghahanap nila ang iba pang pasahero na naglakbay pauwi kasama ang Pilipinang nurse mula sa Saudi Arabia.

Samantala, naniniwala ang mga eksperto na ang posibilidad sa ibang pasahero ng eroplano na naimpeksyon a mababa.

Ang DOH ay nananawagan ng kooperasyon mula sa publiko na labanan ang nakakahawang sakit tulad ng MRES-CoV na may banta sa pampublikong kalusugan.

Ang Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus or MERS-CoV, na nagpapakita ng tulad ng simtomas ng lagnat ay unang umusbong sa Middle East.


"Handa ang ating gobyernong gamutin ang mga maysakit pero malaking tulong kung maagang magpapakonsulta ang bawat pasyenteng may nararamdaman, lalo na kung galing sa Middle East region," sabi ng DOH said. (DMS/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
