Butuan City Comelec partners with PIA for info dissemination on May 13 polls

By Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY, April 30 (PIA) – The city Comelec here has partnered with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Caraga to ensure proper information dissemination during the conduct of the midterm national and local elections on May 13.

Lawyer Ernie F. Palanan, city election officer, said this convergence effort will bring development in achieving good governance and promotes transparency to the public as news and information coming from their end will be immediately aired or broadcasted.

PIA-Caraga Regional Director Abner Caga said that through the capacity of PIA-Caraga in disseminating the relevant information on a real-time basis, the public will not be left behind as they will be aware of what is currently happening before, during and after the elections.

Palanan and Caga were resource speakers during a roundtable discussion on Monday.

Caga underscored the importance of the agency’s text blast, as well as the utilization of web-based electronic communication channels through the website, blogspot, social media, and the electronic newsmagazine. “This is deemed useful to obtain fastest way of information dissemination,” Caga said.

Caga pointed out that as government’s information arm, PIA’s mandate is to disseminate developmental news and information to the public in a wider perspective.

“To disseminate the information in a wider perspective, we need to build networks coming from the pool of media personalities in the region. They will serve as information dissemination multipliers so that the public in their respective areas of responsibilities will receive such information on time,” he said.

With these developments, Palanan is optimistic that transparency of the polls result will be immediately disseminated to the public in support to the good governance President Benigno S. Aquino III. (RER/PIA-Caraga)

Brigoli added that the completion of these facilities will serve as the supply side of the department’s other anti-poverty program, the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

“Thus, we should all take advantage of the early voting so as not to hinder our operations, reporting during election day (Kaya, kailangan nating lubus-lubusin ang pagkakataong makaboto ng maaga upang hindi maputol ang serbisyo natin sa pagbibigay ng ulat at ilang mga impormasyong kinakailangan nating maihatid sa madla sa eleksyon)," sabi ni Caga.

“Despite our limited manpower, we should maximize our efforts and see to it that significant and factual information must be disseminated on real time” (Sa kabila ng kakulangan ng ating mga tauhan, kailangan nating maihatid ang mga karampatang impormasyon sa mismong oras na nangyari ang isang kaganapan), sabi niya.

“This is because of the unified effort and cooperation of the barangay health workers, barangay officials, and residents in the communities. The provincial government with the Department of Health has been very supportive to the Malaria control Program (Ito ay dahil sa pakikipagtulungan ng mga barangay health workers, opisyal ng barangay, at resident ng mga komunidad.

“With the active participation of the people in the communities, we find it easy for us to sustain the program and keep our families away from this disease. We also thanked our partner–agencies and the global fund (funding organization) for their continuous support in this program” (Sa pakikipagtulungan ng iba’t-ibang komunidad, nagging madali para sa amin ang mapanatili ang programa at mailayo ang ating pamilya sa sakit na ito.

(RER/PIA-Caraga)
