Skills training benefits women in Surigao del Sur
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, March 23 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Surigao del Sur, through the office of Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD), spearheaded a skills training on rug-making and fancy jewelry-making at the Shacene Pension House, this city.
According to PSWD Officer May Navidad Salinas, recycled materials such as used clothing and unused cloth from the tailoring shops were used for rug-making, while Surigao del Sur-abundant indigenous materials like shells were used for jewelry-making.
"The skills training conducted is in line with the celebration of the Women’s Month Celebration this March," Salinas added.
Meanwhile, a tree-planting activity was also conducted earlier this month for the said month-long celebration, which is anchored on the theme "Women’s Weathering Climate Change: Governance and Accountability, Everyone’s Responsibility". (NGBT-PIA Surigao del Sur)

DOLE-Caraga ranks 2nd in jobs posting in PHIL-JOBNET System for 2011

BUTUAN CITY, Mar. 23 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment – Caraga posted 29,743 job vacancies at the PHIL-JOBNET system from Nov. 1, 2010 to Nov. 30, 2011.
The figure ranked them second, next to top poster, National Capital Region.
PHIL-JOBNET is a free and secured internet-based strategic job search system of DOLE. It is accessible 24 hours a day at seven days a week.
On their part, DOLE Caraga employed various innovative strategies to encourage employers to use the system to search for qualified applicants and for seekers to find employment.
Some strategies were even bolstered with the support of the local government. An example of this is the executive order (EO) issued by Gov. Sol Matugas and mayors Ferdinand Amante Jr. and Ernesto Matugas.
The EO required companies to be registered with the system before they are issued business permits.
It also necessitates public transport utilities like buses, tricycles and jeepneys in their respective jurisdictions to post PHIL-JOBNET stickers.
Relative to the sticker posting, DOLE entered a Memorandum of Agreement with the Land Transportation and Franchising & Regulatory Board.
“Employers trust now the PHIL-JOBNET services of DOLE, and more and more jobseekers alike are conveniently accessing and registering to this free recruitment and referral system of DOLE via internet,” DOLE-Caraga Regional Director Ofelia Domingo said.
From August 2010 – September 16, 2011, which was the cut-off period before the National PESO Convention in Davao City, DOLE Caraga also ranked second to NCR with 23,413 vacancies posted.

category. This is likewise the first time that a PESO from Caraga bagged a national award.
