Agusan del Norte Veterinary Office strengthens info dissemination drive

by Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 10 (PIA)
-- The Agusan del Norte Provincial Veterinary Office continues to provide info dissemination drive to Agusanons who have pets at home.

According to Dr. Belen Aruelo, those who have pets at home, especially dogs are prone to rabies if they are bitten.

With this, Aruelo said their pets must undergo regular vaccination, be fed with right nutritious foods, and maintain cleanliness.

She added that pets must have their own pens not only to ensure their health, but as well as the health of those who are taking care of them.

The provincial veterinarian also advised the public that pets must not stay inside the house with the family members, as part of proper hygiene.

Aruelo said the information dissemination drive will continue as part of the good governance of the local government unit of Agusan del Norte, which is in line with the mandate of the Aquino Administration. (PIA-Caraga)

“Diamond” women learn new skills

by Gervacio Dauz, Jr.

It’s never too late to learn a new skill, and earn from it, too.

At age 72, Arnolfa C . Donaldo learned how to debone a bangus and to make pickles. She is no stranger to preparing food, though, as she had run her own restaurant for 40 years.

Last December 8, she—together with 16 women and a man—attended a skills training seminar sponsored by TESDA Agusan del Norte and the barangay council of Tandang Sora in Butuan City.

The women were mostly members of the Diamond Star Women’s Association (DSWA). Ophelia P. Labiano, President of the DSWA and also a training participant, said that the group wanted to learn new skills that they can use to put up a livelihood project.

She said that with the support of TESDA and the barangay council of Tandang Sora, they see a brighter future for the elderly.

The training which was held as part of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, was for the participants, more than an activity to promote gender and development agenda.

“This might be a just another activity for us in the Brgy. Council,” Kagawad Ubaldo P. Pino, Jr said, “but this surely significant in the eyes of our women.”

Indeed, “helping others help themselves” is the only way to go in overcoming poverty in the country. And for these women, a newly acquired skill could lead to productive lives in their twilight years.

Thus, Arnolfa Donaldo, offered to train DSWA members in making tocino, ham, carne norte, and other processed foods. She also may soon join DSWA even as she is already an active member of the senior citizen’s group. (RDA/GDJ/TESDA-Agusan del Norte)

DepEd to prioritize hiring of eligible teachers in Caraga

by Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 10 (PIA)
–- To complement the number of public school teachers in the entire region, Department of Education (DepEd)–Caraga Administrative Officer Raul Orozco said hiring of eligible teachers is one of the priority concerns of the department.

During an interview with a local radio station here, Orozco said teachers who are eligible or have passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) have the opportunity to be hired and be assigned to different areas in Caraga Region.

“We have to be meticulous in hiring teachers and one way of doing that is to see to it that those who will be hired are LET holders,” Orozco said.

The LET is being administered by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

The move of the region’s education department adheres to the social reform agenda of President Benigno S. Aquino III and is highlighted in the Philippine Development Plan for 2011-2016. This is to ensure that quality education will be given to the Filipino children. (PIA-Caraga)

SURIGAO CITY, Dis. 10 (PIA)

“I think this is one of the best ways of defining, appreciating, understanding and living the spirit of accountability… i-memorize po natin yan at ilagay sa harap ng ating work table so that we will remember it all the time… ‘public office is a public trust’… hindi po puwedeng kina-career natin yan para yumaman tayo, hindi po pwedeng ganon… that is not accountability,”si Coloma miingon.

“Ang sabi ng tao kay PNoy…mamuno ka sa reporma at pagbabago, we can derive this from the mandate that he (President Aquino) received from the people… bawasan ang kahirapan at wakasan ang korapsyon,” siya midugang.

We can take this from the Philippine Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, which says ‘sovereignty resides in the people and all government authority emanates from them’,” si Coloma miingon.

“One of the most important manifestations of the commitment to take the straight path is to strengthen the justice system in our country,” si Coloma miingon.
