Search for Model OFW Family is on; OFW families can call OWWA for free using Globe or TM

Globe recognizes the achievements of successful overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) with its full support of this year’s search for the Model OFW Family of the Year Award (MOFYA).

The award aims to give honor and recognition to outstanding OFW families and promote best practices in achieving success in all aspects of life in the face of overseas migration of one or more members of the household.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration’s (OWWA) is now accepting nominations for the MOFYA regional search. For more details and nomination forms, interested parties may call the DOLE 2917 Hotline (press “3” for OWWA) for free using Globe or TM cellphones nationwide. Non-Globe subscribers may dial 02-908-2917 for chargeable calls to the DOLE 2917 Hotline. Nomination period is until August 15.

The DOLE 2-917 Hotline was put up by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in partnership with Globe for the local workforce and OFWs seeking immediate information on either local and overseas jobs and other relevant updates and services.

Aside from the hotline, DOLE has also put up a DOLE 2917 Text Services that gives millions of Filipinos an easier means of reaching DOLE by simply texting DOLE to 2917 or DOLE ASK to 2917. OFWs or their family members may also send their urgent messages to the OWWA 24/7 Text Helpline 0917-TXT-OWWA (or 0917-898-6992).

In support of MOFYA 2009, Globe provided the official MOFYA theme song: Gary V’s “Basta’t Nandyan Kayo,” dedicated to OFW families.

PNP arrests wanted person

Personnel of Butuan City Police Station (BCPS) 3 led by PSI Ave Mario Romero, Station Commander arrested one Juvy Arman Peral, 36 years old, married, and a resident of Purok-2, Barangay Libertad, Butuan City at around 3:35 in the afternoon, September 1, 2009 at their residence.

Said person has a Warrant of Arrest (WOA) issued by Hon. Eduardo Casals of RTC Branch 1, Hall of Justice, Libertad, Butuan City, charged for violation of R.A. 9262 (Anti-VAWC) docketed under criminal case number 13492 with recommended bail bond of PhP80,000.00.

Arrested suspect is now detained at BSPS 3 for proper disposition. (PNP-13/ PIA-Caraga)

Report on shooting incident

On September 1, 2009 at around 11:50 in the evening at Purok-Balantiyong, Barangay Maon, Butuan City, one Marjeilyn Pelarca Deparine, of legal age was accidentally hit a stray bullet from a caliber 9mm hitting her right stomach.

Investigation disclosed that prior to the incident, a certain Jerald Simanya Malinao, had a heated argument with his wife, Angel Patok Malinao. Afterwards Jerald stay out of their house when suddenly an unidentified suspect approached and shot him twice but missed and unfortunately hit the victim.

Suspect who stands 5'5" in height, medium built immediately fled on board a single motorcycle while victim was brought to Butuan City Medical Center for medical treatment.

Recovered from crime scene was one empty shell of caliber 9 mm pistol. Further investigation is being conducted by elements of Butuan City Police Station 1 to possibly identify the suspect. (PNP-13/ PIA-Caraga)
