Youths contribute in BCWD’s local contests

The youth have long been recognized as potent forces in social transformation. For many years, the Butuan City Water District (BCWD) has always been placing importance in advocating the youth as future stewards of the environment and water resources, thus, making them the beneficiaries of its different local contests. Through these contests, the youth share their talents and subsequently, engage themselves in water advocacy.

This year, BCWD conducted different local contests on March 26 – April 1, 2009, in consonance with the celebration of the 8th Water Consciousness Week and the 35th BCWD Founding Anniversary, carrying the theme “Bringing Quality Water, Building Bridges, Changing Lives.” The local contests gathered an immense number of participants, coming from the different elementary and secondary schools in the City. Highlighting the celebration was the conduct of the following contests: the 2nd Quarter Water Quiz Show 2009, 6th Photo Contest, 2nd On-the-Spot Poetry Writing Contest, 2008 Water Quiz Show Grand Championship Match, 20th On-the-Spot Essay Writing Contest and 20th On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest.

The announcement of winners took place on March 31, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at the BCWD Roofdeck, where most of the contestants, coaches and teachers were present for the awarding ceremonies.

6th Photo Contest

The on-location shooting for the 6th Photo Contest was held on March 6, 2009 in Sitio Iyao, Brgy. Anticala. A total of 19 photos from the elementary level and 15 from the high school level were judged by Dr. Renato Jose C. Villanueva, Engr. Rolando G. Milan and Mr. Michael S. Licup.

2nd Quarter Water Quiz Show 2009

The 2nd Quarter Water Quiz Show was conducted on March 13, 2009, at the BCWD Roofdeck, 9:00 a.m. for the elementary level and 2:00 p.m. for the high school level. A total of 31 elementary pupils and 19 high school students competed in the 2nd quiz show for the year. Sitting as Board of Evaluators were: Ms. Sarah Vicenta S. Confesor from DOST, 1st quarter Champion coach from Angelicum Montessori - Ms. Jemmalou F. Sacro and Mr. Rudiard I. Animo – 1st quarter Champion coach for the secondary level, and Engr. Al Patrick dela Calzada from BCWD.

Al Patrick dela Calzada of BCWD as Board of Evaluators

The Poetry Writing Contest which took place on March 24, 2009 at the BCWD Roofdeck was made on-the-spot with the general theme “Clean Water: Healthy Life, Progressive World.” A total of 20 poems from the elementary level and 17 from the high school level were critiqued by Ms. Shirley L. Corvera, Atty. Claudine Ann L. Calo and Ms. Vivian D. Otaza.

The 20th On-the-Spot Essay Writing contest was held on March 27, 2009 at the BCWD Roofdeck with the theme “Quality Water: Bridge Towards Healthy Lives and Progressive Communities.” Judging the 21 elementary and 16 high school contest pieces were Mrs. Asuncion C. Gayon, Mrs. Michiko Makinano-de Jesus and Ms. Vivian D. Otaza.

The 20th On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest was carried out on March 30, 2009 with the theme, “Water and Me: Stop Global Warming!” for the 20 elementary level contestants and 13 high school level contenders. Judging the posters were Mr. Carl P. Loquias, Mr. Omar P. Arellano, Mr. Paul Christian T. Yu, Mr. Tomasito S. Yatan, and Mr. Michael M. Matutina.

The schools, coaches and students were all given Certificates of Commendation for their active participation in each of the contest categories sponsored by the District.

Special awards were given to the Department of Education Butuan City Division and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga Region for actively supporting the institutional activities of the District. Mutya Hong Butuan 10 Official Candidates chosen

BUTUAN CITY – Of the 20 pretty Butuanon ladies who undergo final screening last April 4, the lucky 10 were finally chosen and became the official candidates for the Mutya Hong Butuan 2009. Just this week the candidates attended photo sessions and trainings on Speech Development and Table Etiquettes, and for the first time, the candidates receive Health Awareness Lecture with Dr. RJ Villanueva, sponsored by Butuan DOTS Clinic as part of the World TB Day. The ladies were lectured about TB Awareness, Fitness Enhancement and Sex Education.

Mutya Hong Butuan beauty pageant is just one of the many activities lined up for the month long celebration of the Balangay (pronounced as ba-lang-hay) Festival in May.

The 10 Pretty Faces will be seen for the first time in public during the opening ceremony of the Balangay festival on May 1 at the Rizal Park after the motorcade, and to be officially introduced on May 2 during the Mutya Presentation Night at FSUU Gym.

Duha ka NPA, arestado sa entrapment operation

BUTUAN CITY – Nadakpan sa mga sakop sa Butuan City Police Station 5 ang duha ka mga rebeldeng New People’s Army samtang nagilkil sa negosyanteng si Rolendo Billioned atoll sa gilusad nga entrapment operation pasado alas 10:30 sa buntag didto sa tindahan sa negosyante sa Purok 9, Barangay Tungao sakop sa dakbayan.

Naila ang mga nadakpan nga sila Sostenes Romano og Regalado Situng, parehong 18-anyos, ulitawo og mulupyo sa Purok 2-C, Barangay Lingayao, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte.

Gihimo ang operasyon sa pagpanguna ni P/Sr Insp Reinerio Salcedo, and station commander sa maong buhatan human nakadawat og kopya sa demand letter.

Atol sa operasyon, misulay pa pagsukol sa kapulisan si Romano hinungdan nga gipusil kini sa paa nga miresulta sa ilang pagka-aresto.

Nakuha gikan sa ilang posisyon ang usa ka kalibre 38 nga revolver nga duna’y upat ka mga buhing bala, usa ka cellphone, usa ka XRM-110 motorcycle o gang napulo ka tag-usa ka libo ka pesos nga marked money.

Task Force Butuan, planaong dugangan sa local nga kagamhanan

BUTUAN CITY – Planong dugangan sa lokal nga kagamhanan sa dakbayan sa Butuan ang ihap sa kasamtangang mga miyembro sa SCAA iaron magsilbeng Task Force Butuan.

Eastern Seaboard route sa SRNH, gipangunahan ni PGMA

SURIGAO CITY – Malampusong gipangunahan ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ang paglusad sa Eastern Seaboard route sa Strong Republic Nautical Highway kon SRNH sa dakbayan sa Surigao.

Gipahigayon kini atoll sa personal niya nga pag-inspeksyon sa roll-on, roll-off kon RORO operation sa pantalan sa Surigao City bag-ohay pa lamang diin kabahin kini sa tulo sa pantalan sa Mindanao nga lakip sa ruta.
