SCPF helps address Mabua, Tandag City residents’ education, safety concerns

By Nida Grace P. Barcena

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur  (PIA) — Government support through the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF) is helping address the education and community safety needs of residents in Barangay Mabua, Tandag City, with P200,000 allocated for priority community projects.

According to Leonida Lagunda, barangay secretary, P100,000 of the fund was allocated to the Bagong Pilipinas Presidential Scholars, benefiting five students, each receiving P20,000 in educational assistance.

The assistance is expected to help ease the financial burden of students and their families, particularly those striving to complete their studies amid current economic challenges.

Lagunda said the assistance is particularly meaningful for graduating students, helping ease the added financial burden as they complete their studies and prepare for the next stage of their lives.

“Madayaw gayud ine na programa kay nakaavail ang taga barangay sa mga kaayuhan gikan sa nasyonal,” Lagunda said.

(This is truly a good program because residents in the barangay are benefiting from the national government’s assistance.)

She added that the educational assistance could help students continue and complete their studies despite financial difficulties.

“Kabahín sa mga estudyante, makatabang gayud ine labina sa mga mogradwaray na mga estudyante na naglisud intawon makalampos sa ilang pag-eskwela tungod sa kalisud sa panahon kuman,” she said.

(For the students, this will truly be a big help, especially for those who are about to graduate and are struggling to complete their studies due to financial difficulties.)

The remaining P100,000 will be for the installation of solar streetlights.

According to Lagunda, the project is intended to help address concerns over electricity costs while improving nighttime visibility and safety for residents.

The solar-powered lighting system is expected to provide an alternative source of street lighting and help reduce the barangay’s electricity expenses, while contributing to a safer environment for people moving around the community at night.

For Mabua, the SCPF assistance goes beyond financial support as it allows the barangay to respond to two practical needs: helping students pursue their education and improving public safety through better lighting.

Lagunda expressed appreciation for the national government program under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration, noting that its benefits reach communities at the grassroots level.

The initiatives reflect how government resources, when directed toward local priorities, can provide tangible support to families, students, and communities while helping barangays address their immediate needs. (NGPB, PIA Surigao del Sur)
