LGSF strengthens Agusan Norte good governance, infra, agri development efforts

BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — Improved road connectivity, stronger public services, enhanced disaster resilience, and increased agricultural productivity continue to benefit residents of Agusan del Norte as the province leverages national government investments through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) and other priority infrastructure programs.
Governor Maria Angelica Rosedell M. Amante highlighted the province’s successful mobilization of national government assistance, underscoring the trust and confidence of partner agencies in the local government’s commitment to transparent, accountable, and effective governance during her State of the Province Address (SOPA).
These initiatives support the Bagong Pilipinas agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., which emphasizes empowering local government units through strategic investments, strengthening local governance, modernizing infrastructure, enhancing disaster resilience, and promoting inclusive economic growth to improve the quality of life of every Filipino.
Among the major development investments reported by the governor is the P25-million FY 2025 Local Government Support Fund–Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (LGSF-FALGU) for the ongoing upgrading and improvement of the Amontay-Calonia provincial road. Once completed, the project is expected to improve access to communities, facilitate the efficient movement of people, goods, and services, and stimulate economic activities in the province.
Amante also reported that the province received P3 million under the FY 2025 Local Government Support Fund–Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive Fund (LGSF-SGLGIF) for rehabilitation of the All Living Spaces Building at the Provincial Jail. The incentive recognizes the province’s compliance with the standards for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) and supports initiatives that enhance public facilities and improve government service delivery.
She emphasized that the LGSF remains one of the national government’s key mechanisms for empowering local government units to implement high-impact development projects while promoting excellence in governance. Through performance-based incentives and financial assistance, the program enables local governments to improve infrastructure, expand access to essential services, and build resilient communities.
Complementing these investments, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues to implement 44 infrastructure projects across Agusan del Norte worth approximately P911 million. These include the rehabilitation of the Buenavista-Bunaguit Road, riverbank protection works along the Guihao-an River in Buenavista, and the completion of the flood-control structure in the downstream section of the Guinoyoran River in Santiago.
These projects are expected to improve mobility, protect communities from flooding, and strengthen climate resilience, supporting the government’s continuing efforts to build safer and more sustainable communities.
Meanwhile, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) continues the Santiago communal irrigation system and the Cabadbaran-Tubay River irrigation system, helping ensure a more reliable water supply for farming communities. These irrigation projects are expected to increase agricultural productivity, improve farmers’ incomes, and contribute to the Marcos administration’s food security agenda by ensuring stable and sustainable agricultural production.
Amante said these accomplishments demonstrate the strong collaboration between the provincial government and national government agencies in delivering responsive programs and infrastructure that create greater opportunities and improve the quality of life of Agusanons.
