PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur (PIA) — A total of 1,969 qualified farmers and fisherfolk in the municipality of Prosperidad in Agusan del Sur were provided with financial aid under the Presidential Assistance to Farmers and Fisherfolk (PAFFP) Program, with approximately P4.5 million distributed to beneficiaries.
The assistance was released through the collaborative efforts of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga, Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (APCO) Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Sur Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), and the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Prosperidad during the June 25–26 payout, which was held at the Prosperidad municipal gymnasium.
Moises Rivas, punong barangay of Barangay Azpetia, expressed gratitude to the Office of the President (OP), national, and regional line agencies for extending financial assistance to farmers and fisherfolk, saying the support would greatly help beneficiaries address their daily needs and sustain their livelihoods.
“I sincerely thank our government, under the leadership of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr., for this much-needed assistance. The financial aid serves as a great help to us farmers and will go a long way in supporting our livelihood,” he said.
The financial assistance is intended to help farmers and fisherfolk cope with the rising costs of agricultural production and fisheries-related activities.
For farmers, the aid can be used to purchase fertilizers, quality seeds, and other essential farm inputs for corn and rice cultivation, and fisherfolk may use the assistance to sustain their fishing operations.
Through this program, the government aims to ease the financial burden on beneficiaries, strengthen their livelihoods, improve agricultural and fisheries productivity, and enhance their resilience against increasing production costs and other challenges affecting the sector.
The PAFFP forms part of the national government’s continuing commitment to supporting the agriculture and fisheries sectors by providing timely assistance to affected farmers and fisherfolk, promoting food security, and fostering sustainable rural development.
