BFP Agusan Sur kicks off Fire Prevention Month with motorcade

By Kelvin Kennt R. Generalo

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur (PIA)  The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) San Francisco, Agusan del Sur formally opened the celebration of Fire Prevention Month with the theme Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa,’ through a kickoff motorcade on March 2.

March is observed as Fire Prevention Month, serving as a reminder for everyone to remain vigilant, especially with the start of the dry season when fire incidents tend to increase.

The activity was made possible through the efforts of the officials and personnel of the station, supported by the local government unit (LGU) of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, the San Francisco Emergency Response (SAFER), barangay officials, and various organizations in the community.

“For everyone’s information, this is the sign that our Fire Prevention Month has started. At the same time, it is to inform the public that BFP San Francisco has begun its advocacy, reminding everyone to be cautious in our homes and in our daily activities,” said Fire Officer 3 Annie Cuizon Mendrico, station admin of BFP San Francisco.

“This theme reminds us that fire prevention is not just the responsibility of one agency or person, but a responsibility shared by all members of the community,” she added.

The motorcade traveled around different barangays in the municipality to inform residents about the importance of knowledge and preparedness in preventing fire incidents.

From January up to the present, the municipality has recorded four fire incidents, mainly caused by faulty electrical connections. Because of this, the BFP continues to remind the public to follow safety protocols such as inspecting electrical wirings, avoiding overloading outlets, and preparing fire extinguishers in homes and establishments.

“Let this month be a reminder to all of us that prevention begins at home and in our community,” said Acting Provincial Fire Marshal Shirly Erlina, Fire Senior Inspector of BFP San Francisco.

The kickoff ceremony is part of the wider campaign of the BFP aimed at strengthening fire safety education and encouraging community participation to prevent the loss of lives and destruction of property caused by fire.

“Our advice is not to livestream fire incidents but to immediately call the fire station so that responders can act right away. The personnel of BFP San Francisco are on duty 24/7,” said FO3 Mendrico.

The BFP San Francisco also invited the public to participate in their activities for the month of March, such as a bloodletting activity and ‘Dagan Kontra Sunog 2026’ (Run Against Fire)The kickoff ceremony is not only a beginning but also a reminder that no one is an island and that everyone has the responsibility to help prevent and respond to fire incidents through the collective efforts of the community. (KKRG, PIA Agusan del Sur with a report from PTV Agusan del Sur)
