PIA, PGAS revive Agusan Sur info center to step up public info dissemination

By Niña Jonalyn B. Gambe-Diamante

BUTUAN CITY (PIA)  The provincial government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS), led by Governor Santiago B. Cane Jr., and Regional Head Venus L. Garcia of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga, signed a usufruct agreement for the turnover of a renovated office space within the provincial capitol compound.

The move reopened the facility as the province’s Government Information Center (GIC).

The agreement marks a milestone, not only as a binding partnership between PGAS and PIA but also as a reaffirmation of their shared commitment to deliver accurate, timely, and relevant information to the people of Agusan del Sur. It further strengthens collaboration in advancing transparent and responsive public communication.

“It goes without saying that as a fellow public servant, we give priority to PIA as our primary partner in public communication and information dissemination. PIA is always welcome to take part in the province’s significant events such as the upcoming Palarong Pambansa,” said Governor Cane.

The deed of usufruct grants PIA Agusan del Sur the authority to occupy a 40-square-meter office space within the capitol compound for its provincial operations, with the contract subject to renewal upon mutual agreement of both parties.

Also present during the signing were PGAS Executive Assistant IV Janssen Michael Albienda and Niña Jonalyn B. Gambe-Diamante, PIA Agusan del Sur GIC coordinator, who facilitated and witnessed the execution of the deed.

“We are truly happy and grateful to the provincial government of Agusan del Sur and to Governor Cane for allowing us to utilize the province’s facilities for the operations of our field office. We look forward to sustaining this partnership as we work together in delivering the quality public service that the people deserve,” said RH Garcia.

Garcia emphasized that the reestablishment of the PIA Agusan del Sur GIC will enhance its capacity to produce more information, education, and communication (IEC) materials, helping inform and educate the public about government programs and projects designed for their benefit.

The establishment of the GIC underscores the vital role of collaboration between PIA and local government units (LGUs) in advancing local governance and citizen engagement. By working hand in hand, both institutions reaffirm their shared commitment to delivering reliable public service, ensuring that communities across Agusan del Sur remain informed, empowered, and connected to the programs and initiatives that shape their daily lives.
