BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — In the spirit of giving this holiday season, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Caraga released a total of P1,575,000 of assistance under the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) fund to 26 qualified overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families across the region on December 26.
The distribution was conducted under the “Serbisyo sa Tugkaran” initiative, a doorstep service approach that ensures government aid directly reaches the beneficiaries in their communities, particularly those in remote and underserved areas.
Beneficiaries included nine from Agusan del Norte, eight from Agusan del Sur, five from Butuan City, and four from Surigao del Norte. The fund is intended to support urgent medical, welfare, and emergency needs of OFWs and their families.
DMW Caraga Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Ritchel M. Butao said, “Through Serbisyo sa Tugkaran, we make sure that assistance is not only timely but also personally delivered to our OFWs and their families. This is our way of assuring them that the government is present, responsive, and caring, especially during difficult times and even during the holiday season.”
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for the assistance, noting that the support helped ease financial burdens and allowed them to focus on recovery, health, and family well-being.
The initiative reflects the national mandate of the Department of Migrant Workers, led by Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, to provide immediate, compassionate, and accessible assistance to OFWs in distress. Programs such as Serbisyo sa Tugkaran highlight DMW Caraga’s ongoing dedication to protecting migrant welfare, strengthening community partnerships, and ensuring that government support reaches those who need it most.
