596 families receive aid through food for work program in Surigao City

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte, July 30 (PIA) -- A total of 593 families received food assistance under the Food for Work Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in partnership with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), during a distribution activity held on July 25, 2025, at the Brgy. San Juan Gym.

The program provided Family Food Packs (FFPs) to beneficiaries who participated in community-based work activities. These included women victims of violence, solo parents, members of Bangon Kababayinang Surigao Inc., PWUDS, and Mamanwa, Bajau indigenous and displaced families.

The Food for Work Program aims to extend temporary employment while promoting community participation in efforts that benefit local development.

One of the beneficiaries said that receiving food assistance has alleviated their worries about daily meals.

"Your efforts ensure that we have enough food to sustain ourselves and our children. This assistance not only nourishes our bodies but also brings us peace of mind." He said

Present during the activity were City Social Welfare and Development Officer Lenie S. Liray and City Councilor Karl Duane Casurra, who joined the distribution and encouraged continued collaboration to support vulnerable groups in the city. (Surigao City-PIO/PIA- Surigao del Norte)
