SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) — The Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao organized a comprehensive bomb threat preparedness program through an awareness seminar and simulation exercise on August 7-8 at the Port of Surigao, here.
The bomb threat awareness seminar was held in coordination with the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Philippine National Police. Participants included PMO Surigao personnel, security guards, and other members of the Surigao port community, ensuring comprehensive coverage across all port stakeholders.
The training program aimed to enhance the port community’s readiness and response capabilities in dealing with potential security threats, particularly bomb-related incidents that can endanger port operations and public safety.
Port Manager Froilan Caturla said, “The awareness seminar and the practical simulation exercise are conducted to bring awareness on the established protocols and procedures during security threats. The drill involves the PMO Surigao’s Incident Management Team, employees, and security personnel, providing hands-on experience in implementing emergency response measures.”
He shared that the simulation exercise replicated realistic scenarios that could occur at the port facility, allowing participants to practice their roles and responsibilities under controlled conditions. “This practical approach helps identify potential gaps in current procedures and strengthens the port’s overall emergency preparedness.” (SDR, PIA Surigao del Norte with a report from PPA-PMO Surigao)
