PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) opened the Provincial Innovation Hub (iHub) in Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur on August 1.
The inauguration which formed part of the celebration of the 2025 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week in Caraga region was attended by Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr.
The iHub was established in response to the province’s need to strengthen initiatives in science, technology, and innovation—particularly in support of the youth, the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and local innovators.
Secretary Solidum emphasized the importance of the iHub in bringing science and technology closer to the local community.
“To those interested in adopting technology, they can approach DOST. MSMEs who need equipment or machinery can visit the provincial science and technology office to discuss their needs. We have funds allocated to support the technological requirements of MSMEs in growing their businesses,” said Sec. Solidum.
A key highlight of the iHub’s opening was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the DOST and local stakeholders who initiated the collaboration to bring technological services to communities across the province.
The iHub will provide services focused on research and development, product prototyping, training, and mentorship—aimed at helping businesses upgrade their products and services through the use of innovative technology.
“The iHub is purposely hosted by the provincial science and technology office because it is intended for our students and entrepreneurs. We are now equipped and trained, and we have facilities where MSMEs, students, and LGUs can come for assistance in addressing technological challenges,” said DOST Provincial Director Marie Kris Delarmente.
The new facility is expected to serve as a platform for local communities in Agusan del Sur to develop and showcase new ideas that address local problems and contribute to the province’s economic growth. (KKRG, PIA Agusan del Sur with a report from PPIO Agusan del Sur/ PTV Agusan del Sur)
