BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — The Department of Health-Center
for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Caraga reminded all the government agencies to
practice basic hygiene to prevent diseases like mpox during the Partners Forum
for mpox orientation on June 30.
Mpox is a disease that is transmitted through
prolonged skin to skin contact. Bacterial, fungal, and viral infections are
also transmitted by the same method.
Doctor Amethyst Kathleen Alicante, medical officer
IV of the DOH-CHD Caraga emphasized the most basic way to prevent these
diseases is by simply washing the hands.
“Handwashing is one of the most basic practices to
prevent any disease. Applying soap and scrubbing your palm and fingers for 20
seconds or while singing a happy birthday song twice. We must regularly wash
our hands or use rubbing alcohol, especially when we cater to clients,”
Alicante said.
In addition, Alicante reminded them of the
importance of conducting continuous preventive measures in the workplace such
as disinfection and sanitization, having a functional handwashing area, and
available rubbing alcohol in their offices for the clients and the personnel,
minimizing the risk of contacting diseases like mpox.
“The preventive measures should be sustainable and
not limited to Covid-19 pandemic, but rather their implementation should be
permanent for the safety of the clients and personnel,” she added. (MFC, PIA
