NCIP Caraga backs Caraga State U's MUGNA Extension Project

BUTUAN CITY -- The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Caraga was invited to participate in an event organized by Caraga State University (CSU) as part of its Making Use of Generous Networks for Advancement (MUGNA) Extension Project with the theme, "Enhancing Tribal Engagement and Strengthening Mathematics Education in the K-12 Curriculum," on May 27 at the CSU Administration Building, Butuan City.

The event highlighted collaborative efforts to deliver culturally responsive and context-based educational interventions to indigenous learners.

On behalf of Regional Director Ordonio P. Rocero Jr., Jean P. Gonzales, OIC chief of the Technical Management Services Division (TMSD), delivered a message of support saying, “Empowering IP communities begins with inclusive education and meaningful collaboration. NCIP is proud to support the initiative of the CSU's MUGNA Extension Project."

The event gathered various stakeholders, including IPs from Sitios Iyao, Tagkiling, and Mahayahay, all located in Barangay Anticala, Butuan City, to promote inclusive education and foster stronger engagement between tribal communities and the academe.

Also in attendance were Jefferey T. Dellosa, vice president for Research, Innovation, and Extension, CSU; Mark Joseph Paguta, principal of Tagkiling Tribal Secondary School; Wilman N. Canson, principal of Anticala National High School; Leo K. Codilla, dean of the College of Education, CSU; Elan M. Elpidang, PhD, education supervisor of the Department of Education (DepEd);  Maris T. Lasco, PhD, licensed professional teacher (LPT) and the project leader of MUGNA Extension Project.

The initiative adopts a culturally responsive approach to education by providing contextualized teaching strategies and capacity-building workshops for both educators and parents.

By focusing on mathematics as a core learning area, the program aims to equip Indigenous learners with essential analytical and problem-solving skills vital for success in the 21st-century world.

Finally, with the active participation of IP leaders, families, and educators, CSU is fostering partnerships that uplift Indigenous youth and empower communities through education, ensuring that no learner is left behind. (NCIP Caraga/PIA Caraga)
