BUTUAN CITY (PIA) – Agusan del Norte Governor Ma. Angelica Rosedell M. Amante has issued Executive Order No. 18, directing intensified measures to prevent and control the spread of monkeypox (mpox) and other emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in the province.
The directive mandates strengthened disease surveillance, early detection, and rapid response mechanisms through the provincial health authorities, working in close coordination with local government units, health facilities, and frontline workers.
Gov. Amante has directed all cities and municipalities in Agusan del Norte to implement the order within their respective jurisdictions. She instructed local government units to mobilize the city, municipal, and barangay health emergency response teams to conduct active surveillance, ensure the timely reporting of suspected cases, and carry out public education campaigns to inform communities about preventive measures.
The order also emphasizes the need to coordinate closely with city and municipal health offices to ensure isolation, referral, and contact tracing for any suspected mpox cases.
The province’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been activated and stands ready for timely response. Isolation units are in place at both the provincial and district hospitals to manage potential cases, while healthcare personnel remain on heightened alert for any signs of transmission.
Amante has also urged all Agusanons to strictly observe minimum public health standards, including the wearing of face masks, especially in high-risk or crowded areas.
“Let’s keep up our efforts, observe hygiene, wear masks when needed, and support our health workers,” the governor said. “Together, we can protect our communities and stay safe.”
Meanwhile, Doctor Odelio Y. Ferrer, provincial health officer said, “We cannot completely prevent the infection, but we can control their spread through effective surveillance and timely reporting. Anyone experiencing mpox-like symptoms must report immediately.”
“Our goal is to prevent, contain, and manage the spread of mpox and other diseases. Public cooperation is essential,” Ferrer added.
As of this writing, Agusan del Norte remains mpox-free, with zero reported cases – a status the provincial government aims to maintain through collective vigilance and community-wide compliance with health protocols.
The provincial government remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguard public health and urges all residents to stay informed, follow official advisories, and take part in the shared responsibility on disease prevention. (NCLM, PIA Agusan del Norte)
