BJMP helps find post-release employment of PDLs through linkages

By Mariesh F. Celedeña

BUTUAN CITY (PIA) - Warden Florefe M. Badillo of the Butuan City Jail Female Dormitory, during the recent Kapihan sa PIA, said they were able to assist persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) with their employment by building linkages with other government offices and private stakeholders.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Bislig City Jail also shared its after-care program for the PDLs called ‘Trabaho sa Paglaya,’ allowing them to  help and look for partners who will accept the PDLs as employees or workers after their release.

“In partnership with the Butuan City Employment Services Department (CESD), we have assisted the employment of a PDL after release who is now a nail technician in one of the salons in the city,” Badillo said, citing a specific PDL recently assisted by the bureau.

The BJMP also highlighted the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), helping  those released PDLs who wanted to start their business were granted financial assistance as business capital.

“While the PDLs are still inside the jail, BJMP has livelihood programs such as handcraft bags, coin purses, bamboo banks, paintings, and more, allowing them to hone their skills and prepare them to be entrepreneurs once they go back to their communities,” Badillo added.

For BJMP Caraga, they will continue in forging connections with partners and stakeholders to provide opportunities for the PDLs, ensuring successful community reintegration.

This served as fulfillment of BJMP’s mandate of  developing the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) by equipping them with livelihood skills, empowering them to thrive in life and contribute to nation-building. (MFC, PIA Caraga)
