Top reg'l wanted terrorist medic captured in Surigao Norte

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- In a significant victory against terrorism, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Caraga apprehended a top-ranked Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) member identified as "Jane," on June 16, 2025.

Jane, a platoon medic for the CTG's Sub-Regional Sentro De Grabidad (SRC Northland), was the most wanted person in the entire Caraga region. The arrest, conducted by the CIDG Surigao del Norte Provincial Field Unit alongside local police in Brgy. Bunyasan, Malimono, Surigao del Norte, was executed based on six outstanding warrants issued by the Regional Trial Court, Branch 29 and 30, in Surigao City in the late 2022.

Her charges include two counts of attempted murder, murder, arson, and violations of both the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 (RA 11479) and the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity (RA 9851).

According to the report, Jane was involved in several violent incidents. On March 26, 2022, she and seven accomplices allegedly ambushed two Philippine Army soldiers in Brgy. Binocaran, Malimono, using high-powered firearms. Less than a month later, on April 20, 2022, she was part of a group that torched a dump truck and a payloader, valued at approximately P6 million, in Barangay San Pedro, Alegria, Surigao del Norte.

Accordingly, the owner named Ernesto refused to cooperate and did not pay the extorsion made by the group. On that same day, Jane and 14 others are accused of firing multiple gunshots at Ernesto, causing his immediate death.

PBGen. Rolindo M. SuguiIon, officer-in-charge of the CIDG, lauded the Surigao del Norte unit for their immediate and responsive police service.

He reiterated the CIDG's unwavering commitment to combating all forms of criminality, especially terrorism, and continuing aggressive manhunt operations nationwide.

"We assured the public that the CIDG remains relentless in its fight against terrorism and will continue to hunt down wanted criminals across the country." PBGen. Suguilon said. (CIDG-Surigao del Norte/PIA Surigao del Norte)
