BUTUAN CITY – The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Agusan del Norte reported a high voter turnout and peaceful conduct of the May 12 national and local elections (NLE). This was highlighted by Provincial Election Supervisor April Joy Balano during the official proclamation of the province’s winning candidates.
Balano expressed her sincere appreciation to the people of Agusan del Norte, election workers, and partner agencies for their cooperation and discipline, which contributed to the smooth and orderly conduct of the electoral process.
“This year’s elections were peaceful and successful, thanks to the active participation of our voters and the commitment of all stakeholders,” said Balano.
She reported a voter turnout of 81.91 percent, with 222,922 out of 272,163 registered voters casting their ballots across Agusan del Norte’s 10 municipalities and one component city, compared to 80.6 percent during the 2022 NLE.
A key development in this year’s midterm elections was the redistricting. In previous elections, Butuan City was part of Agusan del Norte’s 1st congressional district, along with Las Nieves. However, following the current midterm elections, the implementation of redistricting officially began, and Butuan City is now a separate congressional district. As a result, Agusan del Norte and Butuan City now each have their own congressional district.
Following the canvassing of votes, the Provincial Board of Canvassers proclaimed the winners for Agusan del Norte’s provincial positions:
▪︎Ma. Angelica
Rosedell M. Amante – Governor
▪︎Enrico Corvera –
Vice Governor
▪︎Dale B. Corvera –
Congressional Representative
Also proclaimed were the newly elected members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board).
The proclamation was presided over by the Provincial Board of Canvassers, composed of Schools Division Superintendent Jennie Mativo, Provincial Prosecutor Danny Serrano, and Balano, who served as chairperson.
“The high voter turnout and peaceful elections reflected the strong democratic values and civic engagement of the people of Agusan del Norte,” Balano added. (NCLM, PIA Agusan del Norte)
