MDRRMO-Prosperidad collaborates with PESO to conduct 1st aid training

AGUSAN DEL SUR -- In response to the referrals of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE’s) Technical Advisory Visit (TAV), the local government unit of Prosperidad, through the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), in coordination with Public Employment Service Office (PESO) conducted a two-day orientation on Basic First Aid and Simulation on April 23-24 at the MDRRM Operations Center, Prosperidad, this province.

DOLE-Agusan del Sur Field Office (ADSFO) coordinated with PESO-Prosperidad through providing names of establishments and gave rationale on Occupational Safety and Health Program as part of training’s preliminaries.

The event, anchored on the celebration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, was participated in by 31 employees of the micro, small, and medium establishments (MSME) who underwent training for two days.

On the first day of the event, Maximo Magallen Jr., DOLE-ADSFO’s senior labor and employment officer and labor inspector, discussed Department Order 198-18, an implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A 11058, “Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties Thereof,” stating, “Every establishment should be aware of the importance of following the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR). It is not just for compliance; beyond this is making sure that when such an incident happens, one can respond and help save a life.”

Jessie M. Deni-ay, operations and warning officer of MDRRMO, oriented the participants on the basics of first aid training, highlighting the importance of saving one’s life in various incidents that may happen on the premises of their establishment and even on personal occasions.

The second day of the program focused on the simulation activity wherein participants were tasked to apply their learnings during the discussion on basic first aid.

“This is very beneficial for us because we cannot just apply this learning to our establishment, but also it gives us the opportunity to save lives—not just our co-workers and clients but also our family members and even strangers if such an incident occurs,” said Jenefil Corton, one of the participants.

The program ended with an assessment of the simulation’s activities, sharing of insights among participants, and the awarding of certificates. (DOLE-ADSFO/PIA Agusan del Sur)
