TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) — With just days before the National and Local Elections (NLE), the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Surigao del Sur declared its full readiness to conduct a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process across the province.

During a press briefing held on May 6, Provincial Election Supervisor Riza Ann Donalyn Culima-Constantino said, “We are 100 percent ready for the May 12 polls.” She highlighted that all election paraphernalia were securely distributed to the various polling centers, while election personnel underwent comprehensive training to ensure smooth operations on Election Day.

Moreover, coordination with security partners has been solidified to guarantee the safety and integrity of the elections. Attorney Constantino further announced that the final sealing and testing of the automated counting machines (ACMs) were conducted on May 7 across the province, ensuring their functionality and readiness for the voting process.

In line with its commitment to protect the democratic process, the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO) mobilized 1,117 police personnel province-wide to safeguard polling areas and voting centers.

PNP Provincial Director Harry Domingo, confirmed this full-scale deployment, assuring the public that the entire police force is on heightened alert and strategically positioned to maintain peace and security during the election period.

He also emphasized the close coordination between the PNP, Philippine Army, and Philippine Coast Guard under the directive of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), as part of a joint security effort to prevent any form of electoral violence and secure election materials.

Aside from crowd control and area security, the deployed officers are also tasked to assist in the transportation of election materials and provide immediate response to any untoward incidents that may arise.

As the 2025 elections draw near, Dir. Domingo appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities. He emphasized that the cooperation of the community is crucial in upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that every vote counts. (NGPB, PIA Surigao del Sur)
