TANDAG CITY (PIA) — The North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) recently received a P2.2 million grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga to support the launching of the Agri-Fishery Technology Business Incubator (AFTBI).
The AFTBI is designed to provide grassroots communities with access to modern agricultural and fisheries technologies, as well as support in entrepreneurship, research, and sustainable livelihood development.
The turnover of check assistance to NEMSU was attended by DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., alongside Undersecretary Sancho A. Mabborang and DOST Caraga Director Noel M. Ajoc, during the Caraga iHub and Food iHub recent launching in Ampayon, Butuan City
“The AFTBI strengthens the state university’s stand as a leading force in innovation and inclusive development,” said NEMSU President Nemesio G. Loayon. “We envision a future where our local agri-fishery producers grow through science-driven entrepreneurship.”
Pres. Loayon explained that the initiative will help nurture startups, enhance productivity, and improve the quality of life among farmers and fishers in the province.
“We are deeply honored to receive the support of DOST Caraga. This P2.2 million grant is a significant step in our shared mission of empowering the agri-fishery sectors. With this support, NEMSU can directly serve our communities through education, research, and innovation,” he added.
Once operational, the AFTBI is expected to offer capacity-building, product development, technology transfer, and incubation services for aspiring agri-entrepreneurs and fisher-entrepreneurs in Surigao del Sur.
This milestone positions NEMSU as either a provincial or even a regional hub for development, linking science and education to real solutions that uplift lives in rural communities. (NGPB, PIA Surigao del Sur)
