BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — A total of 172 barangays in the Caraga region will receive significant funding under the Local Government Support Fund-Support to the Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP) of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
The program will provide each barangay with an allocation of P2.5 million, intended to support infrastructure and service development in conflict-affected areas in the region.
The LGSF-SBDP aims to bring essential government services to communities affected by insurgency, with a focus on sustaining peace and fostering local development. Under this initiative, the funds will be allocated for key projects such as the construction of farm-to-market roads, school buildings, water and sanitation systems, health stations, and electrification projects.
According to DBM Regional Director Maria Fe D. Jagna, the program’s budget can support a variety of projects, provided they fall within the allocated ceiling. The majority of the recipient barangays are located in Surigao del Sur, with the distribution as follows: 8 barangays in Agusan del Norte, 20 in Agusan del Sur, 33 in Surigao del Norte, 109 in Surigao del Sur, and 2 in Butuan City.
“These projects are part of the respective annual investment programs of the local government units (LGUs) and barangay local government units (BLGUs),” said Dir. Jagna. “It is essential that all the necessary permits and clearances are prepared before the release of funds to ensure the timely and efficient implementation of projects.”
She also emphasized the importance of adhering to the new procurement law and other budgeting and accounting regulations to ensure that projects are sustainable and in line with quality standards. The DBM Caraga continues to support local efforts aimed at empowering communities while ensuring long-term development.
The LGSF-SBDP program plays a crucial role in sustaining the peace and order in previously insurgency-cleared barangays. It helps prevent the resurgence of insurgency while promoting local infrastructure and services, ensuring that these communities have the necessary resources for future growth and stability.
