Employees' union of PH Ports Authority has new sets of officers

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- Chapter presidents of the Pambansang Tinig at Lakas sa Pantalan (PANTALAN) chose an information technology (IT) innovator to lead the National Executive Board (NEB) for the next two years.

Israel ‘Bong’ Cambi, president of the Port Management Office of Marinduque/Quezon (PMO MarQuez) PANTALAN chapter, received an overwhelming vote of confidence from his peers, securing a fresh, full-term as president of the official employee’s union of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).

Cambi currently holds the position of NEB president. He assumed this role to complete the unexpired term of Arthur Nogas, who vacated the presidency following his appointment as acting port manager of PMO Lanao del Norte/Iligan, effective July 1, 2024.

PANTALAN chapter presidents from across the nation gathered in Surigao City from April 23 to 25, to participate in the PANTALAN Leadership Development Course: Leader's Guide to Team Building and Teamwork. Traditionally, the election of officers for the National Executive Board takes place during the PANTALAN Leader’s Conference.

Elected officers of the 2025-2027 PANTALAN National Executive Board are as follows:

National Executive President : Israel R. Cambi (PMO MarQuez)

National Executive Vice President : Naomie D. Zalsos (PMO Lanao del Norte/Iligan)

VP for Manila/Northern Luzon : Donna Christine P. Bansuelos (PMO NCR North)

VP for Southern Luzon : Allan P. Aborot (PMO Palawan)

VP for Visayas : Irvin Paul H. Conejo (PMO Western Leyte/Biliran)

VP for Northern Mindanao : Raffy M. Lafuente (PMO Surigao)

VP for Southern Mindanao : Christian Ian D. Empeynado (PMO  ZDN)

Secretary General  : Roel Q. Madera (PMO MOC)

National Treasurer : Reynaldo C. Bautista (PMO Northern Luzon)

Assistant National Treasurer : Sherlito M. Columnas Jr. (PMO Bohol)

Auditor General  : Carlo John Contrador (PMO Panay/Guimaras)

Public Relations Officer : Johntimy E. Pardo (PMO SOCSARGEN)

Cambi is widely recognized within the PPA organization for developing an innovative digital document tracking system. Initially implemented at PMO MarQuez during his tenure as records officer, Cambi’s digital tracking system has been widely adopted by other PMOs, including PMO Surigao, where it remains in use. For his efforts, Cambi was recognized as Employee of the Year (Category III) in 2018.

As the official representative body for PPA employees, PANTALAN plays a crucial role in labor relations, workplace policy development, and advocating for the welfare of port workers across the Philippine archipelago. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA Surigao del Norte)
