Agusan Sur PWDs thankful for DSWD’s cash-for-work program

By Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY – A total of one thousand persons with disabilities (PWDs) from the municipalities of Esperanza and Trento in the province of Agusan del Sur benefited from the cash-for-work program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program.

DSWD Caraga Regional Director Mari-Flor Dollaga disclosed that each PWD has received P4,150 for the 10 days of work.

“In recognition of their contributions and as part of the program’s livelihood and social protection components, the beneficiaries collectively received a total payout of P4,150,000,” she said.

Matsam Jr M. Morris, one of the PWD-beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to DSWD for the opportunity and financial assistance through the cash-for-work.

“Aside from having learned new skills such as making plastic brix, we were also able to enjoy the financial aid we received. We really feel that we have contributed to our community despite our disabilities,” she said.

“I am thankful to KALAHI-CIDSS for helping the PWDs like me. This cash-for-work program does not only provide aid to people in need but also serves as inspiration for us PWDs to continue with life amidst challenges,” expressed Allen Leyson Cacal Jr., a PWD-beneficiary.

Dollaga reiterated that the CFW program is designed to provide temporary employment to individuals and groups from vulnerable sectors, enabling them to earn income while engaging in meaningful work that benefits their communities.

KALAHI-CIDSS remains steadfast in upholding the principles of community-driven development (CDD), ensuring that all sectors—especially persons with disabilities are actively included, heard, and empowered to participate in shaping development initiatives that directly impact their lives and communities.

The DSWD also serves as the chair of the Regional Committee on Disability Affairs (RCDA) and has been working closely with the local government units and other government agencies in the implementation of relevant programs and services for the vulnerable PWD sector.
