DepEd, TESDA strengthen partnership for technical, vocational education
SAN JOSE, Dinagat Islands - Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Florence E. Almaden met with TESDA Provincial Director Allan S. Millan on February 10 to strengthen the partnership between the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in assessing and certifying senior high school (SHS) students under the Technical-Vocational Education (TVE) track, and elevate the status of Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a viable career option for SHS learners in the province.
Under this partnership, TESDA provides skills assessment and National Certification (NC) to qualified SHS learners, validating their proficiency in various technical fields such as automotive, agriculture, tourism, information technology, and more.
By working closely with TESDA, DepEd aims to equip SHS graduates with the necessary qualifications for employment, entrepreneurship, or further education. The certification process ensures that students meet industry standards, making them competitive in the labor market and increasing their career opportunities.
SDS Almaden and Dir. Millan emphasized the importance of this initiative in empowering SHS learners with practical skills that translate into real-world employability. Strengthening DepEd-TESDA collaboration at the provincial level will enhance training opportunities, improve the quality of assessments, and expand certification programs to benefit more students in the Dinagat Islands.
This local partnership is part of a broader and nationwide strategy as DepEd and TESDA continue to engage stakeholders and industry partners to make SHS graduates future-ready. By integrating technical-vocational certification within the SHS curriculum, the government is taking a significant step toward bridging the gap between education and workforce demands. (Richard E.
