CANTILAN, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -- The local government unit (LGU) of Cantilan announced its elevation from a 2nd class to a 1st class municipality effective January 1.

This significant reclassification was made official through Department Order No. 74-2024 issued by the Department of Finance, in line with Section 6 of Republic Act No. 11964, also known as the Automatic Income Classification of LGUs.

This milestone reflected Cantilan’s growing economic stature and underscored the dedication of its local leaders to fostering sustainable growth and progress for their constituents. The transition is a testament to the municipality’s improved revenue performance, strategic governance, and thriving local economy.

Mayor Philip A. Pichay expressed gratitude to the Cantilangnons' unwavering support and reaffirmed the LGU’s commitment to delivering inclusive development, better services, and increased opportunities.

“This achievement is not just about a new classification—it’s a symbol of our collective effort to build a brighter future for our municipality. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence,” the Mayor said.
