CARRASCAL, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -  The local government unit (LGU) of Carrascal recently concluded a two-day training on Corn Production Support and Post-Harvest Management held at the LCA Garden Inn and Restaurant in Barangay Gamuton, in Carrascal town. The training brought together 21 local corn farmers, equipping them with advanced techniques to enhance their productivity and sustainability.

Empowering farmers through education

Spearheaded by the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), the training provided participants with essential knowledge on  corn production techniques,  effective post-harvest handling practices, and  pest and disease control and prevention.

The initiative underscored the critical role of corn in Carrascal’s agricultural sector and the importance of adopting sustainable practices to improve yield quality and ensure food security.

Expert-led sessions

Farmers benefited from the expertise of three resource speakers namely,  Sol A. Gualde, R. Agr., IPM provincial coordinator; Ellen Mae C. Orcullo, R. Agr., provincial corn coordinator; and Francis Louie E. Parina, R. Agr., agriculturist II from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga.
