PMO Surigao creates team for patrol, rescue boat

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- To bolster maritime safety and efficiency, the Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao established a dedicated team for Fast Patrol and Rescue Boat.

This initiative enhances the regular monitoring and inspection of critical port infrastructure, including navigational buoys and the underdeck of piers and wharves.

Led by Retired Navy Captain Primitivo Novo Jr., who serves as PMO Surigao's harbor master, the team conducted its inaugural inspection on  September 25, focused on examining the navigational buoys installed at the Port of Surigao and inspecting the underdecks of its wharves, marking a proactive approach to port maintenance and safety.

Capt. Novo said that their goal is to ensure the optimal usage, maintenance, and utilization of the said Fast Patrol and Rescue Boat.

"This team will play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency in our port," said Novo.

The creation of this specialized team comes at a time when ports worldwide are facing increasing pressure to enhance their safety measures and operational capabilities.

By leveraging the expertise of seasoned professionals like Captain Novo, PMO Surigao is positioning itself at the forefront of maritime safety innovation. The Fast Patrol and Rescue Boat, now under the team's management, has a state-of-the-art vessel equipped with advanced technology for rapid response and thorough inspection.

Its versatility allows for both routine patrols and emergency rescue operations, making it an invaluable asset to the port's safety infrastructure.

The team on Fast Patrol and Rescue Boat is set to continue its regular patrol runs at ports under the jurisdiction of PMO Surigao at least once every two months or as directed by the port manager. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
