Site validation conducted to small farm reservoirs in Surigao Sur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -- The Provincial Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Office (PFARO) of Surigao del Sur conducted site validations to small farm reservoirs (SFRs) in the towns of Barobo, Hinatuan, and Lingig on August 22-23, as part of implementation of Project LAWA at BINHI.

Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) program, under the Department Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), aims to create climate and disaster-resilient communities for sustainable development through the construction of water reservoirs to help farmers meet the challenges of the dry spell.

The team assessed seven SFRs to determine the number of fingerlings needed for each reservoir, accordingly.

To ensure the project's success, PFARO facilitated the pond preparation and fishpond management training sessions for partner beneficiaries on August 29-30 and on September 2. After the training completion, fingerlings were distributed to the beneficiaries.

The site validation was led by aqua-culturists Jayson D. Laurente and Glenbert A. Galo, with oversight from Fran Therese C. Manjares of the Provincial Planning Development Office and Faith N. Pinggoy of the DSWD Field Office Caraga. (NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur with a report from PFARO)
