Job fair boosts employment in Tagbina

TAGBINA, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -- In a significant boost to local employment, the Department of Labor and Employment - Surigao del Sur Field Office (DOLE-SDSFO), in collaboration with the local government of Tagbina and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), recently conducted a job fair at the old terminal of Tagbina.

Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to community betterment, 15 job seekers were immediately out of 43 applicants, resulting in a 34.88 percent hired on-the-spot (HOTS) placement rate. This outstanding accomplishment emphasized the critical role of DOLE in promoting economic expansion and improving lives by providing meaningful employment opportunities.

The event offered a wide variety of job openings from six local companies with a total of 263 job vacancies and one recruitment agency offering 100 job openings abroad. This collaborative effort addressed underemployment and unemployment in the area. All participating companies were keen to access the pool of talented and motivated applicants.

John Flor Ramas, SB member of Tagbina, expressed his gratitude to all the participants and organizers, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in fostering economic growth and providing livelihood opportunities for the residents.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the DOLE Surigao del Sur for their unwavering support in facilitating this activity, as well as to those participating employers in joining us here today. This is an opportunity for all of our applicants to embark on new professional journeys and contribute to the growth and development of our community,” Ramas said.

Jefferson Pantallano, one of the HOTS by CARD Inc., shared his gratitude for the career opportunity he experienced.

“Isip usa ka fresh graduate, dako ang ako pasalamat sa DOLE Surigao del Sur sa ilang programa sama sa Job Fair kay ako nakapanggita na dayon og trabaho ug labi na sa LGU Tagbina kay naa silay gihatag nga oportunidad sa amo nga mga Tagbinanhon,” he shared.

The activity formed part of the 55th Araw ng Tagbina and the 2nd Kaalimyon Festival as it  stood out as a significant highlight of the celebrations, demonstrating the local government's dedication to addressing the employment needs of its people. (DOLE/NGPB/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
