It is moving West Northwestward at 15 km/h. Light to Moderate rains are expected over #TawiTawi(TurtleIslands), #ZamboangaDelNorte, #ZamboangaSibugay(Payao, Imelda and Malangas) within the next 2-3 hours. Moderate to occasionally heavy rains are being experienced in #TawiTawi(Mapun), #Sulu(Pangutaran), #ZamboangaSibugay(Alicia, Mabuhay, Talusan and Olutanga) which may persist within 2-3 hours and may affect nearby areas.

 PMO Surigao bolsters security, services for Balik Eskwela

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao is bracing for a surge in passenger traffic as schools reopen with the implementation of "Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Implementation Of Heightened Alert Status During Balik Eskwela Sy 2024-25." 

Presented and discussed during the inter-agency meeting on Thursday, 25 July, at the Port of Surigao, the comprehensive security plan aims to ensure a safe and hassle-free travel experience for commuters during the expected influx of students and their families.

To address potential long queues, the PMO has increased staffing at passenger service booths. Additionally, hotlines and feedback channels have been established for passenger inquiries and concerns. Clear signage displaying the "OPLAN BIYAHENG AYOS" details, including contact information of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), has been installed throughout the port.

Passengers can also avail themselves of assistance from "DOTr Help Desks" and the PMO's "Malasakit Help Desks," which are be manned by personnel from various maritime agencies. Shipping lines have been directed to provide regular updates on vessel schedules to inform the public.

To bolster security, the PMO is collaborating with government law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Visible security personnel will be deployed, and fast lanes have been designated for passengers with minimal belongings, including PWDs, senior citizens, pregnant women, and those with children. 

CCTV (closed-circuit televisioncameras and foot patrols will operate 24/7, while the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, and Maritime Group will extend security coverage to areas surrounding the port.

The PMO has emphasized strict compliance with security protocols and has mandated the presence of all frontline personnel, including terminal managers, during the peak travel period.
