BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) – Some 23 cooperatives from four provinces of the Caraga region recently received financial aid under the newly launched program on ‘Malasakit Sa Kooperatiba’ held at the function hall of the Highland Farm in Bislig City.
Aimed to enhance the cooperatives' businesses by engaging in new ventures, each
cooperative received P50,000 from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA),
in partnership with Senator Christopher Lawrence Go.
Senator Go led the ceremonial turnover to the cooperative representatives from
the provinces of Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and
Agusan del Norte.
On top of the financial aid given to the cooperatives, the members also
received essential items such as shirts, basketballs, and volleyballs. The
cooperative leaders also received the wristwatch, symbolizing a commitment to
long-lasting community support.
During the turnover, the senator emphasized utilizing the funds wisely to
foster sustainability in the project implementation. The initiative is part of
the CDA’s Human Capital Development Program for cooperatives, advocating for
additional funding in the 2024 budget.
“Isang malaking advantage ng kooperatiba ay ang pagkakaisa ninyo, upang
maiangat ang kabuhayan hindi lang ng inyong grupo kundi pati na buong kumunidad
na inyong kinabibilangan, Go said.
“Dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo, asahan ninyo, patuloy akong magiging kaagapay
ninyo at susuportahan ang inyong mga pagsisikap sa abot ng aking makakaya,” Go
concluded.
Meanwhile, Go has co-authored and sponsored key legislations like Republic Act
No. 11502, designating October as National Cooperative Month, and RA No. 13535,
mandating the creation of a cooperatives development officer in the local
government. His commitment to cooperatives is further reflected in his role in
the Senate Committee on Cooperatives. (NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
