Farm business school takes off in Carmen town

BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Agusan del Norte, in partnership with the local government of Carmen and stakeholders, recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the launching of Farm Business School (FBS) held at Brgy. Cahayagan, Carmen, Agusan del Norte.

The farmers are members of Cahayagan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative, a DAR-assisted organization in Brgy. Cahayagan, Carmen, Agusan del Norte.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) II Glen A. Petilla, represented by PARPO I Rodrigo Bitangcor, said that the activity fostered collaboration among stakeholders and the local government unit that signified a collective commitment to driving positive change in the farming community.

Mayor Ramon Calo of the municipality of Carmen encouraged the farmers to not only engage in planting activities but also to delve into entrepreneurship and business aspects related to farm operation profitability and to be able to respond to market demands.

Ellen J. Torralba, chief agrarian reform program officer of DAR - Agusan del Norte said, “The activity was made for the farmers and this is a great step to advance the opportunities towards positive change in promoting sustainable farming practices.”

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer (MARPO) Ronald Cuaresma the FBS capacitates the farmers with the knowledge and tools necessary to manage their agri-enterprise effectively and increase their income and livelihood.

Cuaresma noted that the FBS is composed of 34 participants, consisting of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) and several smallholder farmers on vegetable production. (DAR-Agusan del Norte/PIA-Agusan del Norte)
