PMO Surigao culminates Month of the Ocean with coastal, street cleanup drive

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) -- To mark the culmination of the Month of the Ocean 2024, the Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao spearheaded a cleanup drive across its ports, streets, and harbors on June 1.

The activity is anchored on the theme, "Develop a sustainable and equitable blue economy," which also kicked off PMO Surigao's participation in the Philippine Environment Month celebration, following Proclamation No. 237, series of 1988 with the theme, "Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration."

The cleanup effort saw enthusiastic participation from the Terminal Management Office of Lipata, alongside stakeholders and partners like GlobalPort Surigao Terminal Inc., D' New Surigao Porters Association Inc., the Philippine Navy and 72nd Naval Group Reserve, Surigao City Nickel Eagles Club, Zac Greggor InterIsland Water Passenger Transport Services, and Vertex Maritime International Trading, Inc.

Armed with broomsticks and modified garbage nets, the participants collected a significant amount of 75 kilograms of ecological solid waste. The collected waste was responsibly disposed of with the assistance of Vertex Maritime International Trading, Inc. 

The event concluded with the recognition of all stakeholders and volunteers through certificates of appreciation for their invaluable contributions and support.

PMO Surigao's commitment to environmental stewardship continues. As part of the World Environment Day celebration under Proclamation No. 1149, series of 1973, the PMO will be hosting another environmental event on June 5, 2024, focusing on Biodiversity Conservation and Wildlife Act Awareness with resource speakers from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office – Tubod.
